What Is ToeFX Light Therapy?
ToeFX is a specialist treatment system that uses photodynamic therapy to target fungal organisms affecting the toenails.
A light-sensitive serum is applied to the affected nails and activated using a dedicated red light device. This creates a photochemical reaction designed to damage fungal organisms.
ToeFX does not involve surgical nail removal or oral antifungal medication, making it an option for clients who prefer a non-invasive approach.

How Does ToeFX Work?
Treatment involves three important elements.
1. Nail Preparation
Affected nails are carefully reduced and prepared to remove excess thickening and improve access to the nail.
Where appropriate, Clear-A-Nail fenestration may also be recommended. This involves creating tiny openings in the nail plate to help the serum reach the affected areas.
2. Serum Application & Light Therapy
The ToeFX serum is applied to the affected nails and activated using a specialist red light device.

1 - Initial Consultation & Assessment
New clients begin with a comprehensive General Foot Health Consultation, including an assessment of foot and nail health, appropriate foot care and professional advice.
Where fungal infection is suspected, a rapid fungal nail test may be recommended.
Not all nail changes are caused by fungal infections. An initial assessment, and fungal testing where appropriate, helps determine whether ToeFX is a suitable treatment option.
2 - Nail Preparation & First ToeFX Treatment
Your first treatment includes preparation of the affected nails, application of the ToeFX serum and targeted red light therapy.
Where appropriate, Clear-A-Nail fenestration may also be carried out to prepare the nails for serum application.
You will also receive essential home-care products, including Clinisept Skin Cleanser and Gehwol Shoe Sanitiser, together with advice on their correct use.
3 - Continuing ToeFX Light Therapy
A typical MEDI-BLISS ToeFX programme involves ten light therapy applications, scheduled approximately two weeks apart.
Each appointment includes the necessary light nail debridement and preparation before the serum and light treatment.
Regular professional foot care is also incorporated into your programme, normally at six-week intervals, to manage nail growth, thickening and any additional foot health concerns.
Your progress is monitored throughout, and the treatment plan may be adjusted according to your individual needs.
4 - Continued Home Treatment & Aftercare
Following completion of the ToeFX light therapy applications, a course of topical Lamisil may be recommended to help address possible remaining fungal infection.
Follow-up appointments provide an opportunity to review progress, continue appropriate foot care and discuss your home treatment.
Additional home-care products can be supplied when required.
5 - Final Treatment Review & Fungal Nail Test
At the end of your planned treatment programme, a final review is arranged to assess your nail condition and progress.
This includes a repeat fungal nail test, which helps to provide additional information when considering the next stage of care.
Your results are considered alongside the clinical appearance of your nails, as a single test cannot guarantee complete clearance.
You will also receive protective nail and skin oil, together with advice on maintaining good nail health and reducing the risk of reinfection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ToeFX a laser treatment?
No. ToeFX uses a specialist serum together with LED light in a process called photodynamic therapy. It is a different treatment approach from laser therapy.
Can any thickened or discoloured nail be treated?
Changes in nail appearance do not always mean a fungal infection is present. Your nails are assessed first, and fungal testing forms part of the consultation process to help establish whether ToeFX is appropriate.
Will my nails look clear straight after treatment?
