Therabath®️ is a class II medical devise designed to provide a safe and comfortable vessel for Paraffin Wax treatments. With only one heat setting, the wax is melted very slowly and kept at a constant temperature, as apposed to being subjected to high melting temperatures followed by a cooling period which can be difficult to control.
Thermotherapy is the application of heat to treat pain, muscle stiffness and chronic injuries.
Paraffin Wax is often associated with cosmetic treatments, but it’s origins are medical and widely used in Hospitals & Clinics to provide pain relief for inflamed joints, muscles, skin and circulation disorders.
The use of Paraffin Wax Thermotherapy for pain relief dates back to the early 20th century. It was found to be a therapeutic treatment during World War I for soldiers recovering from injuries. Doctors and Physiotherapists found that the deep, moist heat provided by the paraffin wax, in its molten form, could reduce pain, improve circulation and relax stiff joints in injured limbs.
The treatment became popular in hospitals and rehabilitation clinics around the world and has since evolved into a common therapy for chronic pain management, especially for conditions affecting the hands or feet.
These conditions include: Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Raynaud’s, Chilblains, Eczema and Psoriasis.
Arthritis is an umbrella term used to describe painful conditions that affect the joints or tissues around the joints. There are over 100 types but Osteoarthritis is the most common and often affects the hands and feet.
The Arthritis Foundation highly recommends Thermotherapy to help bring pain relief and relax stiff joints. Based on clinical trials, Paraffin Wax Baths are proven to provide the most effective form of Thermotherapy. By increasing blood flow and relaxing muscles, the connective tissues are softened, reducing joint stiffness. This increased circulation also brings more oxygen and nutrients to affected joints and the thermal effect reduces inflammation. Paraffin Wax can also minimise muscle spasms.
As a natural emollient, it helps to make dry, tight, fragile and irritated skin supple again and continues to boost moisture levels even after the treatment is complete. It helps to reduce cracking and strengthens the skin barrier making it more resilient to external factors. It also removes dead skin cells helping to ease the symptoms of dry, itchy skin conditions.
